WHEN \u201990s indie rockers Cornershop found muse in a Bollywood Actress, Asha Bhosle, for their 1998 hit\u00a0Brimful of Asha,\u00a0<\/i>they failed to mention that the singer \u2013\u00a0the\u00a0<\/a>most recorded musician in the world<\/a>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0is a very keen cook.<\/p>\n Asha Bhoshe\u2019s Bollywood legend and kitchen prowess also provided inspiration for international high-end Indian chain Asha\u2019s \u2013 owned by the prolific UAE restaurant Asha\u2019s Group \u2013 which first opened in Dubai thirteen years ago and now has ten restaurants across the Middle East and one in Birmingham.<\/p>\n Asha\u2019s Manchester \u2013 fronted by Peter Warden (formerly of Individual Restaurants: RBG and Piccolino) \u2013 is the latest to join the acclaimed chain, which has featured in the Michelin Guide eight times, no less.<\/p>\n Having been over a year in the offing, there\u2019s high expectations\u00a0surrounding Asha\u2019s, which has seen the\u00a0mid-nineteenth century Grade II listed building on the corner of Peter Street and Mount Street (opposite the Midland) on the receiving end of a \u00a32m revamp.<\/p>\n Sultrily lit\u00a0with boudoir-style drapings, they\u2019ve showered the build in gold finishings, deep okra\u2019s (purple when it\u2019s at home) and handmade gold \u2018battered\u2019 light fixtures which apparently took over two months to make. There\u2019s enough gold here to make Goldie jealous, and while Asha\u2019s is, with all intention, palatial, the venue somehow manages to avoid ostentation. Just.<\/p>\n It\u2019s big too.
